FFL transfers, or Federal Firearms License transfers, refer to the legal process of transferring firearms between individuals or entities in the United States. The National Firearms Act (NFA) and the Gun Control Act (GCA) regulate these transfers, with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) overseeing the process.

When an individual wants to purchase a firearm from a licensed dealer located in another state or from a private individual residing in a different state, they must initiate an FFL transfer. The transfer involves the firearm being shipped from the seller's location to a licensed dealer (FFL holder) in the buyer's state. The buyer then visits the local FFL holder, completes the required paperwork, and undergoes a background check to comply with federal and state laws.
